start of 1974, a four-fold price increase. This hit the
plastics processing industry and its suppliers extremely
hard. For the first time since its founding, the company
had to shed personnel. By 1975, the number of
employees had fallen from 34 to 27. Doris Kitz remembers
this difficult time all too well: “More than

the assembly of a packaging machine
for example machines for manufacturing plastic bags.
Suddenly a large portion of that business disappeared.
My husband and I talked about it every evening, and
it soon became clear that we needed to establish a
product range that was as versatile as possible, so that
we were no longer dependent on orders from so few
companies.” Thus emerged mk’s standard conveyor
technology, which was expanded and made ready for
standard production by 1976.
