History The Original Profile Is Born
1982 marked one of the most important or even the
most important milestone in the company’s development
in the last millennium; Hans-Josef Kitz presented
his first aluminum profile under the name mk 2000.
He developed and presented this universal profile
when he was searching for a new core business for
his company. And it made sense, since the first conveyors
built with aluminum profiles were produced
that very same year.
“With the mk 2000 system, you only need a hex key
and 8 mm screws to build a machine.” The company
went on the offensive with this message and promoted
its new profile system. It allowed users to “implement
countless custom assembly configurations,”
according to the first brochure for the 2000 system.
“Additional profile cross sections soon followed
and expanded the range of possible applications,”
explains Wolfgang Bär, current head of the order
design department and an mk employee since 1988.
In those first few years, the challenge was always to
convince trade show visitors, who were fixated on
designs made from steel, of the stability of these
new profiles. mk’s designers therefore built a hydraulic
press and used it to subject the profiles to tons of
