Tailor-made Profile Technology for a Mobile Container Data Centre

Task

To adapt floor platforms to the internal contours of the data centre with millimetre precision

Profile technology from mk enables flexible and modular constructions that can be quickly adapted to different requirements. This is demonstrated by a company that produces mobile container buildings for the military, among others. There was one specific instruction: it should be possible to connect the bulletproof special containers together as desired using the modular principle – from small room units to complete bungalow buildings with several rooms For example, that means a modular data centre can be created with computer workstations that are easy to transport, set up and dismantle again for overseas deployments.

It is particularly important for the economic viability of the mobile data centre that all components are not only stable and robust, but also as lightweight and quick to assemble as possible. This also applies to the floor platforms of the containers and the partition walls. For these special requirements, the company was looking for a flexible development partner who could adapt these constructions precisely to the internal contours of the data centre.

Solution from mk

Customised platforms made from aluminium system profiles

The mobile data centre consists of four containers that are lined up side by side. The inner lengthwise sides are open and create a space for the computer workstations. In order to create a continuous floor area, mk developed tailor-made platforms made from aluminium profiles on site and fitted them with screwed-on sheets. The technical cables run under these sheets. The experts also used the individually tailored profile technology to create a wall with an integrated door that forms a partition to the server room.

The decision to use aluminium profiles brought the company a number of advantages. Firstly, the platforms are much lighter than previous welded steel structures. Secondly, they are still robust and resilient. Since the profiles are not welded but connected with standard screws, the assembly work is much quicker. The minimal edge radius of 1 mm provides for virtually gap-free connections between profiles and a clean look.

The company was not only impressed by the quality of the profile technology, but also by the communication with the mk experts. From the first request to the final CAD model and fine-tuning, every step was co-ordinated transparently and efficiently so that the customised container system could be implemented more quickly.

Benefits for the customer

  • Lightweight construction and high stability: The platforms made from aluminium profiles are much lighter than conventional steel structures, but still offer high stability and load capacity.
  • Faster assembly and clean look: Connecting the profiles with standard screws reduces the assembly effort significantly. A virtually gap-free connection creates an attractive appearance.
  • Fast response times: mk experts ensure smooth project implementation on site – from the first request to the last CAD model.
