Kanban staging for manual assembly

Definition of the task

Electronic components to be used in the production of converter modules in ultrasonics need to be staged at a manual assembly station. The required components are held in the customer’s own pallets, which are to be removed and returned manually in the staging area. The pallets are 250 mm wide and come in three different lengths, ranging from 154 mm to 280 mm. Each pallet weighs between 4 and 7 kg. The safe and ergonomic staging of all variants must be ensured.

Solution from mk

A kanban rack, a so-called supermarket made from series 40 mk profiles was designed for the staging area. The pallets are transported through the rack on roller strips and output according to the first in, first out principle. In order to be able to stage the required number of pallets, the rack has four levels, each with four lanes. Each lane can accommodate up to 12 pallets. An additional mini roller conveyor was also mounted on the side for returning the empty pallets.
